I think I am.
Recently, I did a stocktake on my life and found out that I was usually late to a trend.
When I joined the insurance industry in 1994, I was late because many of my peers had joined years before me.
When I joined an MLM company in 2002, many of my friends were already involved in at least one, if not more, of them.
But I managed to be among the top in both of them very quickly. I built a network of 8000+ people in the second one.
Every year, I give myself the challenge to try something new. The past few were physical ones, like climbing the highest mountain in South Asia (YuShan) and running a full marathon.
Last year, because of COVID, I didn’t challenge myself physically since I couldn’t go outdoors.
So this year, I’ve decided to give myself two “indoor” challenges.
And guess what? Once again, I’m late into the game again because people have already been doing them for years.
The first is trading, as in investing in the stock or forex markets. I suppose I can’t say I’m late because this industry will never be out of fashion. I hope.
As for the second one, I’m at least ten, if not fifteen, years late. I won’t tell you guys what it is now because I haven’t decided how committed I will do it.
But based on my late-to-the-game track records, I hope to pull both of them off this time.
Why am I telling you guys all this? Because I know some of you are like me, a late bloomer. You may also be thinking of starting something new, but you’re afraid that you’re late to the game. Well, if this thing doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, why not give it a shot? Or maybe you can buy me a cup of coffee, and we can brainstorm together before you go ahead?
I’ll end with a fifty-thousand-foot view “tip” on how I achieved success in all my endeavours:
- Know what you want;
- Know what you’re willing to give up to get what you want;
- Associate with people who can help you get there; and
- Wear Nike!
PS: The only time I was early to the game when I started a web design company in 2000.
