“Melvin, you’re so cold!”
“Melvin, you’re so ignorant.”
I’ve been accused of being cold and ignorant because I’m indifferent to many things that happen around me.
When I don’t respond to what was being published in the newspaper or mentioned in the news, I’ll hear people say things like: “Don’t you find it pitiful that a child died? I mean, he’s so young. You’re too cold already!”
Don’t you think the above statement implies that it’s okay to die as long as the person is old; or as long as he or she is above a certain age, nobody cares whether that person dies or not?
Furthermore, there are thousands of people dying every day. Just because it’s being reported means I gotta expand my emotional energy and be concerned because they’re more pitiful?
”Aren’t you concerned about the economy/weather/politics? How ignorant!”
Really? The last time I checked, good times or bad times, good government or bad government, there will always be people thriving and people barely getting by in the same country. The rich will most likely stay rich, and the poor stay poor.
So, what has the economy, the weather or the politics gotta do with it?
“Learn to be indifferent to what makes no difference.”
Marcus Aurelius
So yes, I’m indifferent to many things, especially those that are beyond my control and those that make no difference in my life.
Those that I have influence over? Hell, I’m not only concerned, but I’m also almost OCD about them!
