“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
George Bernard Shaw
For the “senior citizens”, or those who feel old out there. Think about this…
What if people above 55 were not given the “Senior Citizen” status? Would they behave like senior citizens, with the majority having slow reflexes and mental agility?
What if people are not expected to retire at age 65? Would they consciously or subconsciously go into retirement mode and hence expect themselves to be less mobile and eventually slow things down?
What if “senior” simply means “experience” or “wisdom” and not “aged” or “physically weak”? Would people above 55 feel more useful and continue to contribute to society, consequently being less of a burden to the younger generation and the government?
If you’re close to or above 50 and think you’re losing out to the younger ones, think again.
Yes. The younger ones may have more energy, but in business (and in life), experience usually trumps energy because you don’t learn experience in school any more than you learn how to ride a bicycle by reading a book or watching some videos on YouTube.
The more experiences we have, the more perspective we have. Seeing the Great Wall of China in photos is different from seeing the structure and walking on it yourself.
So, stop feeling old just because the media says so: stop slowing down just because the masses expect you to.
Instead, start behaving by assuming the best for yourself, and that, in most cases, will result in the best for yourself.
Remember this: If it is to be, it is up to me. So stop growing old, and instead keep growing up. For maturity is a great gift of life.
