Like it or not, most of us are selfish.

Boy: Why did you do this for me?
Girl: Because I wanted you to be happy.
Boy: Why did you want me to be happy?
Girl: Because when you’re happy, I’m happy.
Boy: So, who are you actually doing it for?

You may disagree with me, but this is what I think: all of us have hidden agendas for everything we do.

Whether it’s a ”selfish” or “selfless” act, we’re going after a certain feeling – to feel good when or after doing it.

Nobody does things to make themself feel bad. At least not consistently. Otherwise, that person will be filled with resentment. A resentful person is not good to be around.

So yes. Most of us are selfish. It’s just that some of our “selfish” acts happen to be charitable ones. You may feel tired after doing charitable work, but you will always feel happy. We were tired but happy. Sounds familiar?

Regardless of how “selfless” an act is, we still want to feel good after doing it. No? Saving a person’s life at the expense of losing one’s own is an exception, methinks. But how many of us can do that?

Most of us are selfish. So, stop saying others are selfish because we’re all guilty as charged. Bite me if you have any violent objections.
