Wanting to increase the sales of his watermelons, the old man devises a plan.
1 for $3
3 for $10
He writes the prices clearly on a styrofoam board before putting it on his watermelons.
Almost every customer who passes by, after seeing the prices, will buy the watermelons individually three times and pays the old man $3 x 3 instead of buying all three at once for $10. They all walk off with an “I win” smile on their faces.
After noticing the mistake in the prices, a young man comes to his shop quickly does the same as the rest. Before he walks away, he turns around and says, “Hey, old man! Did you realise I just bought three watermelons for $9 instead of $10? Maybe business is not your thing!”
The old man chuckles and mumbles, “These people are funny. They buy three watermelons when they only need one just so they can take advantage of the ‘mistake’ I devised, and yet they keep trying to teach me how to run my business! Oh well.”
So, who’s the winner here? Savvy customers or the shrewd old man?
