Today is the fourth day of Christmas; I’m sure some of us still receive blessings and well-wishes from friends. I believe that it’s no different during Chinese New Year.
In fact, it’s especially prevalent during CNY season where auspicious words are not only being spoken but chanted daily! Think yu-sheng, *“Huat ah!”, “财源广进”, “大吉大利”, “金玉满堂”, “生意兴隆”, and what-not.
But when everything is over, we revert to normal and forget about the well-wishes and auspicious chants we uttered during Christmas or CNY.
Why do people only speak positive words during festive seasons and not every day regardless of the occasion?
Do we really believe that such well-wishes only work during festive seasons? Or is it a case of monkey-see-monkey-do?
I remember very clearly that I’ve got chided for saying inauspicious words during CNY when I was in primary school. It caused me to believe that inauspicious words could only wield their power during CNY, and therefore it was okay to say them after CNY.
I suspect people who don’t speak negative words during festive seasons also do not think negatively.
Wouldn’t life be better if we speak and think positively every day of our life instead of just during festive seasons?
