And the key to success is? Be like David!

Let me introduce you to two of my friends. Visualising Vincent and DoTheWork David.

Both of them want to grow a 5-metre tall tree.

Vincent puts pictures of a tall tree on his vision board and visualises it growing daily. He writes his goal about a 5-metre tall tree every day. Vincent believes in the law of attraction.

David’s goal is simple – focus on the process of watering the tree daily. No visualisation, no dream board, no law of attraction mumbo jumbo. He has no goals whatsoever to create a big tree. He just does the work every day.

Somewhere in his journey, David falls in love with watering trees. He finds it therapeutic – a lot like meditation. Every day, David waters trees just for the love of it.

Who do you think will have a 5-metre tall tree eventually? Who will have inevitably hit the goal?

I’ve witnessed many Vincents give up while the Davids just keep doing the work daily. The Davids almost always end up with 5-metre tall trees.

Plus, the Davids just keep going.

The Vincents? Off to hunt for another shiny object!

So, what gives?

Sure, you may have a day where you live like a rockstar—dining in a 3 Michelin-starred restaurant, drinking a bottle of $10,000 red wine, skydiving from 10,000 metres, or reading books under a coconut tree.

But are they sustainable? Are most of your days going to be like that? I hope not. Otherwise, you may feel empty and start doing things that you’re not supposed to do.

Instead, be like David.

How can you design your perfect average day? How can you design a life that is spent on your terms? What processes are their reward for you? What processes automatically create the outcomes that you want?

Design your average day on purpose. Then you design your business to fit into your life around your perfect average day. Your business should support your time and life.

You are to own your business, not the other way around.
