Do I need to regret it?

Recently, someone asked, “Melvin, is there anything you regret not doing?”

I always roll my eyes when someone asks me this question. ?

To me, other than sounding romantic, this question doesn’t make sense at all.

Why?

You see, I know how to answer the question about whether I regretted doing something or not because I already have the outcome to see whether it’s a regrettable one or not.

But for the things I haven’t done, how can I feel remorseful without first knowing the outcome? For me to say I regret, am I not assuming that the outcome would guarantee to be a positive one? Is it even fair to have such an assumption?

So, what am I trying to get at?

Stop being hard on yourself for the “regrets” about the things you didn’t do or should’ve done. For you will never know whether the outcome would be a positive or negative one had you done it.

And yes, stop entertaining those romantic-sounding but useless questions once and for all.

Start living in the NOW!

Regrets for the things you’ve done can be tempered by time. Regrets for the things you haven’t done? Screw that feeling!
