Don’t focus on your goals

If you’ve ever attended any sales training, you’d have heard the importance of setting goals.

I used to set goals all the time. Goals like becoming a gazillionaire, getting a six-pack, being the top in my company, starting a business, etc.

But guess what? I didn’t achieve any goal that I set for myself. Screw S.M.A.R.T. goals!

Whenever I set a big goal, I set myself up for failure.

However, that doesn’t mean I didn’t achieve anything. I learned many new skills, saved money, got fit, became one of the top in my company, and even started a couple of businesses.

But I achieved them accidentally when I stopped focusing on them and gave 100% on whatever was in front of me. They were happy “side effects” of setting goals.

So, what gives?

Stop focussing on and visualising about you achieving your goals. Instead, start concentrating on what’s in front of you and give it all you’ve got. You cannot control the outcome, but you can control your daily activities.

Most of the time, life never turns out the way we planned. It turns out better. It’s more adventurous and exciting than anything we can ever plan.

Knowing exactly how our life will turn out every step of the way sounds boring. Don’t you think so?
