Are you someone who buys things because they’re on sale, or someone who only waits for a particular item to be on sale before buying it?
If yes, do you put the savings to good use?
Or do you use it to buy yet another sales item?
If it’s the latter, what have you saved?
According to my not-so-scientific research, people who buy sales items do so more for the thrill than putting the savings to good use, like savings for their retirement or children’s education.
And most of them ended up buying more than they needed.
Instead of spending $50 buying something they needed, they spent $70 buying more things than what’s required, all this while feeling proud of themselves because they believed they’ve “saved” money.
Or they convinced themselves that the extras were for a future perceived need. You never know, right?
Consequently, they spent more money instead of saving more. What’s the point then?
For someone (like me) who buys stuff to fill a need instead of because it’s cheap, I’ll never be able to understand the rationale of people whose decision to buy is based on price instead of need.
Perhaps these people confuse desires with needs? They buy what they want (because it’s a good deal) and later justify their decision with a need?
What about you?
How do you make your buying decision?
Need or cheap?
