Will people still pay a premium for it?
Will people stop buying when it stops going on sale?
Will LV still be LV?
I don’t think LV will ever do that because they know that doing so will cheapen their brand image.
Unfortunately, not all companies think like LV. I know one which doesn’t.
Ever since the company had a new CEO, they started having monthly promotional offers. So much so that without those offers, their sales figures suffer.
What used to be a high-grade premium brand is now a run-of-the-mill brand.
A “buy me because I’m good” product has become a “buy me because I’m cheap” product.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not against companies giving out occasional offers. But to do it monthly is a different story.
Any company that does that tells us that they’re desperate for sales. And other than regular promotions, they’re not competent enough to think of anything else. It’s a reflection of the company’s leadership, or a lack thereof.
Do you work for a company that has such a “strategy”?
If yes, check the leadership. It’s most likely they are more concerned about short-term revenues to please the shareholders than the company’s long-term growth and people.
And if you’re okay with such a “strategy”, all power to you. There’s no right or wrong; it’s just a difference in business philosophy.
However, if you believe that such a “strategy” reflects the leadership’s lack of imagination and creativity, you may want to consider looking elsewhere.
