Should we judge a book by its cover?

Whenever I see those I-will-teach-you-to-be-rich ads on Youtube, I can’t wait to press the “Skip” button.

I’m not sure whether all those self-proclaimed gurus use the same makeup artist, scriptwriter, and movie director; somehow, all of them look and talk uncannily alike – like a con artist! They even sound alike!

To me, these people look and sound ‘slimy’ (or 油 in Chinese)!

Or maybe the Chinese saying, 相由心生 (loosely translated as “our look is a reflection of what we think about constantly”) is true?

I’m not sure whether I’m biased or not. But whenever I see these self-proclaimed gurus – both local and overseas – touting their “Invest like Warren Buffet”, “Be an eCommerce gazillionaire”, “Invest in properties like Li KaShing”, and all other get-rich-quick schemes on Youtube or Facebook, my eyes roll auto-magically!

Their typical opening is, “You only need $100 to make tons of money!” But you must pay thousands of dollars to attend their courses. Of course, if you want to make even more money, pay them another $19,997 more to attend their I-will-make-you-to-be-a-multi-millionaire Masterclass! The last I checked, most of these gazillionaire-gurus are still feeding off or living with their parents.

Sometimes, I feel like subscribing to Youtube paid services just so I don’t have to see their faces popping up in the ads, even for a few seconds. This much I detest the way they look and talk!

So, should we judge a book by its cover? I don’t know about you. But I would.

If you like me, you will say I’m discerning. But if you don’t, you will say I’m critical. And out of curiosity, if you don’t like me, why are you reading my posts then? ?
