The truth about getting paid for doing what you love.

A few years ago, my insurance company, AIA, gave their policyholders an incentive to keep fit. As long as we met specific exercise criteria, we earned points that we could exchange for Cold Storage vouchers every week.

Since exercise has been a part of my lifestyle for years, earning those points was a walk in the park for me. I consistently clocked more than double their requirements because of the exercises I did.

I was getting paid for doing what I love. Yay!

However, they made it more difficult for people to qualify recently. I guess the reason is that they’re losing money with this incentive program. But since I always double-qualify, this is not a problem for me.

The problem is that not only did AIA raise the bar, but they also put an element of luck into earning the points. Meaning, after qualifying, I still have to spin a wheel to earn points! And because the lowest points occupy more slots in the wheel, I got the lowest points seven out of ten times!

I got so mad at times that I didn’t feel like exercising anymore!

Suddenly, what I used to enjoy doing, I find it a chore because it reminds me of the frustration I have each time I spin the stupid wheel!

So, is getting paid for doing what you love a good thing?
